We were laughing and talking around the fireplace when suddenly my daughter jumped up screaming! She lunged forward and grabbed two-year-old Gracie, who immediately burst into tears.
Oblivious to the danger of fire, Gracie had started to put her tiny fingers into the dancing flames. My daughter reacted in love, but from Gracie’s perspective, her mom had spoiled her fun.
We're often like Gracie when it comes to God’s commands. We think God wants to spoil our fun when He actually wants to pull our fingers from the flames.
To make things worse, our culture encourages us to “play with fire.”
We're saved by faith, not by obedience to God's commands. But obedience keeps us in the center of God's will—in the center of His love. Christ said, "When you obey me, you remain in my love" (John 15:10). And that's an incredible place to be!

ReplyDeleteSo powerful. Gracie is a good illustration to it. Thanks.

ReplyDeleteThank you! Great example of God’s love for us just as a parent loves his/her child and watching over that child with love at every moment.
